H.E Justice Hassan Jallow’s Lecture – 2nd AAIL-AFIL Distinguished Lecture Series

The African Association of International Law (AAIL) and the African Foundation for International Law (AFIL) are organizing the second lecture in the AAIL-AFIL Distinguished Lecture Series in association with the Hague Academy of International Law, will take place on 19 June 2015 at 6.00 p. m. in the Historical Reading Room at the Peace Palace, Carnegieplein 2, 2517KJ The Hague. The lecture will be followed by a reception.
The lecture will be delivered by Justice Hassan B. Jallow, Chief Prosecutor, International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda (ICTR) and the UN Mechanism for International Criminal Tribunals. The topic of the lecture will be “The Contribution of the ICTR to the Struggles against Impunity”. The lecture will review the work of the ICTR as it prepares to close down by the end of this year. It will focus on the achievements and challenges it has faced, its impact on the jurisprudence, the numbers and status of those prosecuted, its impact on Rwanda in terms of reconciliation and capacity building for the legal sector, the impact of the ICTR on the global struggle for justice and accountability.
